What a wonderful way to celebrate ‘International Quilting Day’ (the 3rd Saturday in March). The EQI Bus Trip to Ballarat and Ballan was thoroughly enjoyed by all. So many gorgeous fabrics just begging to sneak into our stash! The ‘Paint Chip Challenge’ mystified each shop as members walked around holding paint chips aloft against bolts of fabric, trying to match colours.
Every patchwork shop saw different fabrics that met the varied needs of members, no matter what style or method of patchwork, there was something for everyone. ‘Gail’s Emporium’ was awash in colours rich and bright; ‘The Cotton Factory’ modern with clear colours; ‘Sovereign Needlework’ tempted those who enjoy embellishment with threads galore; ‘Eureka Patchwork’ astounded with rows and rows of themed collections, and ‘Millrose Quilting Gallery’ hosted the added bonus of a very special exhibition.
The exhibition of ‘Red Cross Signature Quilts’ from both World War 1 and World War 11 gave pause to thoughts of commemorating not only those who fought in the wars, but those who tirelessly worked in supporting the wounded. Displayed were memorabilia, quilts and historic information.
A lovely day as a result of a well organised event - Thank you.
I was emotional about these … how did others go… but felt a special connection to the people who would have spent their time making some effort to make the soldiers comfortable.. It was very moving wasn’t it? …Janis
